The Shafi Shawls is more than just a business; it's a legacy woven through three generations of family dedication to the exquisite crafts of Kashmir. Our journey began in the early 1900s, when our grandfather—an expert artisan—passed down the art of carpet weaving. This legacy was carried on by his sons, including our late father, Shafi Mohamed Bhat, who revolutionized patterns like the New Kashan. Though turbulent times in the 1990s forced a pause in our journey, our passion was reignited in 2004. Today, we celebrate Kashmiri artistry through hand-woven pashminas, embroidered textiles, and chain stitch treasures that embody both heritage and elegance.

A Legacy Woven Through Generations
The Shafi Shawls is a story deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of Kashmir. What began in the early 1900s with our grandfather teaching the art of carpet weaving soon evolved into a family legacy of textile excellence.
Our late father, Shafi Mohamed Bhat, carried forward the tradition by refining patterns, developing the New Kashan style, and collaborating with designers. But like many, we faced challenges in the 1990s that led to the closure of our family-run workshop.
Yet, passion never dies. Since 2004, we’ve been on a mission to revive and celebrate Kashmir’s artistic treasures—from intricately embroidered textiles to luxurious hand-woven pashmina shawls. What started as a humble attempt to preserve our legacy has now grown into a movement to showcase Kashmiri craftsmanship on the global stage.
Over the years, we’ve worked closely with skilled artisans from remote valleys, helping them bring their artistry into modern homes through designs that reflect both tradition and innovation. Whether it's a vibrant chain stitch cushion cover or a delicately woven pashmina, every creation carries the spirit of Kashmir—resilience, warmth, and timeless beauty.
